Law Clerk
The Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal seeks a law clerk to directly assist an
appellate judge with case-specific duties. Working under the judge’s exclusive supervision and
direction, clerks analyze the legal arguments of litigants, perform legal research, draft legal
memoranda, and assist the judge with drafting opinions and writ dispositions. Clerks must have
considerable knowledge of legal research methods and be able to analyze and organize facts and
legal precedents in difficult and complex cases. Clerks must have strong writing skills and must be
able to communicate clearly and concisely. Strong computer skills, especially with word-processing
programs, are also a must. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law
school. At least three years of experience required. Previous experience as a law
clerk a plus. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
